Lucent, Alcatel in Merger Talks
USA Today has a short clip in Moneyline that Lucent Technologies and French equipment maker Alcatel SA are discussing a merger in what could start consolidation among the firms. The companies in a statement: "We can confrim that Lucent and Alcatel are engaged in dicussions about potential merger of equals that is intended to be priced at market. There can be no assurances that any agreement will be reached or that a transaction will be consummated."
Is this another mega-merger between different company cultures that will not work out finally?
An act of dispair?
Next on stage Siemens and Nortel?
